MYSTERY READER-

Virtual VIP Readers stared this week.  Jack’s dad, Nate Hoekstkra was our first virtual reader.  He read us The Little Red Pen. It was so fun to “invite” someone into our room.  We miss having you here! We have one October spot left and plenty after that! Sign up for a “Virtual Mystery Reader” slot by clicking this link.

CELEBRATIONS-

Star of the Day – Five new friends were Star of the Day this week- Cambry, Carmel, Jack, Riley, and Evert. Each got to be the line leader and sit at the teacher desk!

Quote of the Week –  This week’s quote went to Hector.  He is a good friend and always has a smile on his face.

First Grade Family Time –  At the assembly, we celebrated our learning, gave awards for the quote of the week, along with awards for lost teeth, shoe-tying, & birthdays from the week. Here are our “award-winning” first-graders from today’s family time.

Carmel joined the shoe-tying club as well!!

OUR LEARNING:

Writing – This week we worked on bringing our stories to life.  We worked to unfreeze our people, tell our stories bit by bit, and show our people’s thoughts and feelings.  I am amazed at the details the kids are adding and how they are connecting writing into word study.

Word Study – We started snap words (sight words) this week. We reviewed many of the Kindergarten words and continued to look at patterns words shared- vowels, syllables, blends, digraphs, beginning sounds, and end sounds.

Reading– We continued to grow our good reading habits. We worked on rereading and looking at the pictures as a sneak peek to help us with the words.  We also talked about our good habits and made sure we aren’t picking up bad ones along the way.

Math- We wrapped up Unit One this week and reviewed and tested. I’ll get those graded ASAP and get those home to you.  Unit 2 will continue with addition.

Social-Emotional – We continued to work on recognizing emotion and how to appropriately express our emotions.
