Celebrations-

Star of the Day – Five new friends were Star of the Day this week- Anastasia, Riley, Kennedy B., Skyler, and Mrs. Elders. They were able to share a book with the class if they wanted.

Quote of the Week –  This week’s quote went to Lucy.  She is an avid reader and does a great job teaching herself more about the world around her through books.

First Grade Family Time –  At the assembly, we celebrated our learning, gave awards for the quote of the week, along with awards for lost teeth, shoe-tying, & birthdays from the week. Here are our “award-winning” first-graders from today’s family time.

Ruby, Hazel, and Mrs. Cooley celebrated their birthdays this week.

OUR LEARNING:

Writing We ended our Review Unit this week with one final book review and spent this week publishing our best one.  We’ll be sending home all of our review writing to go over with you during parent-teacher conferences.

Word Study –  We continued to work on our vowel teams this week. We added ‘oi’ and ‘oy’.  ‘oi’ is most often in the middle of a word and ‘oy’ at the end of a word.  We also studied our “gross” sounds- ‘ew’ and ‘ue’

Reading–  We wrapped up Unit 3 this week.  We have learned so many tools for understanding our books.  Our last focus was on sounding like a “Reading Star.” We are also so excited for all our special March is Reading Month events.  We encourage you to find fun ways to read with your child at home to “mix it up” this month. Read to a stuffy, flashlight read, FaceTime a relative to read them a story, find something fun to help beat the end of winter blues!

Math-  This week we took our Unit 4 test.  Tests will be coming home and we will review them with you at Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Social-Emotional– We are also ending our Kindness Social-Emotional Unit.  We are ending with The Classroom Kindness Zone.  We’ll continue to work to incorporate ways to show kindness at school and at home and we hope you will too!
