I will send a reminder email along with a pre-conference survey later next week.  This will help to ensure we make the most of our time. Looking forward to seeing you and celebrating your child!

Scholastic Book Orders

I placed our class order Thursday last week.  Books should take about 2 weeks to come in.  November/December flyers will come home soon if you’d like to order for the holidays.  Thanks so much for supporting this.  We have gotten so many free books for our class!

Mystery Reader-

Connor and Palmer’s Grandma,  Gramma Ginger, was our Mystery Reader this week. She read us- Fiona Flamingo by Rachael Urrutia Chu.   Sign up for a “Virtual Mystery Reader” slot by clicking this link. We’d also love to invite you (a sibling, a grandparent, aunt, uncle) to send in a video of you doing a read-aloud if you can’t make our mystery reader time.  We also have flexibility in doing it at a different time if you aren’t available at 3:00.  Please let me know.

Celebrations-

Star of the Day – Four new friends were Star of the Day this week, Ella, Evert, Jason, and Norah.  They enjoyed sharing a Show and Tell with the class.

Quote of the Week –  This week’s quote went to Abbey. She is always working hard, never gives up, and is a great helper in our class.

First Grade Family Time –  At the assembly, we celebrated our learning, gave awards for the quote of the week, along with awards for lost teeth, shoe-tying, & birthdays from the week.  It was a quiet week on the club joining in our room.

OUR LEARNING:

Writing – We began our second writing unit, “How-To Writing.” We brainstormed how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich this week!

Word Study –This week we began our second word study unit, all about the mystery of the silent e. We worked on sorting words with the vowel ‘a’ that did and did not have an e at the end of the word. In words without an ‘e’ at the end, the ‘a’ said its short vowel sound. In words with an ‘e’ at the end, the ‘a’ said its long vowel sound.

Reading– This week we began our second unit of reading which is all about being word detectives. The Super Secret Detective Agency (SSDA) delivered us a top-secret envelope with 5 missions for our class to complete. This week we completed two missions and received magnifying glasses to help us “look closely” while we read.

Math-We continued solving subtraction equations with circle drawings this week. Our class did great on this week’s quiz! It’s in mailboxes to come home Monday.

Social-Emotional – We worked on the Power of Yet.  We thought of all the things we have learned and can now do and a few things we can’t do….YET!! Mrs. Stauffer, our PBIS coach, also came in and taught us about the Zones of Regulation and how we can help our body to move into the green zone to be ready to learn and play at school.

Fall Party Fun and other pictures-

Thank you so much for supporting our party from afar.  We appreciate everything that was sent in and the kids had a great day! We also earned an extra recess on the 4/5 playground and enjoyed some time outside by ourselves.  Our class has created Spider Tag and many of them play it together every recess.  It is so special to watch them become a class family.
